VDBUM base event at ECHLE in Wolfach: focus on innovation, safety and dialogue
On 28 April 2025, a VDBUM (Verband der Baubranche, Umwelt- und Maschinentechnik e.V.) base event was held at ECHLE in Wolfach. Head of organisation Christian Kopp (VDBUM Freiburg) welcomed the participants and opened the event with an outlook on the role of the association in the region.
Florian Kappes, Managing Director of ECHLE, then gave a comprehensive presentation of the company. He not only outlined the development of the medium-sized company, but also provided insights into current business areas such as special construction, the electrification of construction machinery and new developments in the field of sustainable machine solutions. A guided tour of the production facility gave the guests a practical impression of the wide range of services and ongoing projects. Kappes also explained the current order situation and his assessment of economic developments in the industry.
A central topic of the event was protective shoring, focussing on ECHLE’s patented cabin protection system. Michael Dera, Head of Protection and Accessories, presented the system in detail and showed the innovative approaches ECHLE is pursuing in the area of occupational safety.
In the subsequent keynote speech by Bernd Pagel from BG BAU, key aspects of safety when handling construction and demolition machinery were discussed. His practical presentation impressively illustrated the challenges that exist in day-to-day work – and how these can be minimised through suitable protective measures.
The event ended with an open discussion round in which the specialist audience and speakers discussed current issues and future prospects for the industry. At the concluding get-together with regional specialities from the Black Forest, all participants had the opportunity for personal exchange and networking.
